A "fractional share" is a stock that is less than one full share. This usually happens when an investor acquires shares of stock through a dividend reinvestment program. If the dividends paid are not enough to buy a full share of the stock, the investor will be credited with a fractional share until there are enough dividends to purchase a full share of stock.
