A "bought deal" refers to a securities offering in which the lead underwriter buys all the securities from an issuer of securities (for example, a company with respect to stocks or a government with respect to bonds) and becomes financially responsible for reselling them. It is also referred to as a firm commitment. The underwriter takes the risk that the securities can be resold for at least the purchase price it paid for them.
